Big win for Canadians as Health Canada allows for the medicinal use of Psilocybin (also known as Magic Mushrooms)
After a 2 month consultation period with the public, it became apparent that many Canadians are in support of psilocybin.
According to the Canada Gazette “Many submissions described the mental health status of Canadians as being poor, and commented that the existing treatment options for many mental health disorders are limited, relatively ineffective and/or accompanied by negative side effects.”
It can be assumed that after 2 years of Covid lockdowns and restrictions that the mental health of Canadians are expectedly worse.
There have been several studies on the effectiveness of psilocybin for people with mental health issues. One study done at Harvard found between 60% and 80% of people with depression or PTSD had evidence of remission after taking one of these two drugs.
The question remains, will Health Canada restrict the production of magic mushrooms to large pharmaceutical corps or will Canadians be able to grow their own for medical purposed similar to Personal Use Production Licences under The Cannabis Act.
