Using marijuana for medicinal purposes is a proven and certified method of medicating. In numerous jurisdictions, cannabis is legal for medical reasons. The NIH National Institute on Drug Abuse lists medical reasons for cannabis. The chemicals within various strains can help take away pain, nausea, stress, anxiety etc.

So many Strains!

After receiving a diagnosis for a particular illness, you may start to plan a wellness guide and that wellness guide includes trying out medical marijuana to help alleviate pain caused by the condition. So, you head to your doctor with your plan in mind and you discuss your options. Your Doctor may agree that using marijuana is good for pain management and agree to give you a medical marijuana card and advise you in the most effective strains to help with your condition.

Going into a dispensary can be overwhelming, with tons of names and strains it’s a tough place to explore in if you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for. It’s tempting to go for cooler names strains but you need to stay on point. Of course, experiment with different strains – you do you – but, we recommend considering the kind of experience you hope to receive from your cannabis journey.

Indica, Hybrid or Satica – Find it on the specturm

Firstly, everything has a spectrum even you’re on one too, buddy! Weed strains have one too! On one end, there are Indica strains that are relaxing and create a sense of euphoria. On the other end, there is Sativa which creates alertness and increases energy. Depending on your preferred experience with cannabis you choose a strain on where it falls on the said spectrum. There are more than 80 known cannabinoids that affect different parts of the mind and body. Different strains can induce different results. To choose the best strain for you, you should understand carefully how strains impact you.

Sativa strains tend to contain higher levels of THC – the primary psychoactive component in marijuana. Sativa heavy strains are more likely to promote energy and creative thinking. Some Sativa strains include Sour Diesel, Golden Goat and Casey Jones.

Sleep problems?

Indica-dominant strains are more likely to promote feelings of sleepiness and relaxation. Therefore, strains with more Indica cause the predictable sleepy sensation, which can be used to help conditions like sleep apnea and insomnia. If you’re struggling with sleep related conditions, another avenue to check out is strains high in CBN, cannabinol. CBN is a product if degeneration, so, it can be created by leaving your cannabis to dry out in the sun a bit. This will cause THCa to turn into CBNa which will transform into CBN when heated. Lots of science-y talk, I apologize; on to strains that will help! Strains that will promote sleepiness are Bc God Bud, Bubba Kush and Granddaddy Purple; all known for their full-body highs and sweet, fruity flavor.

Pain management

There are many components that contribute to cannabis’ healing effects! For example, THC has shown to significantly reduce the pain in cancer patients. But it isn’t just THC that promotes pain management, CBD plays a huge role in the pain management. CBD works in conjunction with THC to relieve pain and restore tissue. Strains that can help as effective pain management drugs are White Widow, Northern Lights and Chemdawg.

Anxiety

If you’re looking to ease that anxiety a bit and calm the brain strains like Fire Alien OG and 303 OG are some of my personal faves to alleviate that burdensome imbalance in my brain! Strains rich in each of the components are great for relaxing your brain when it seems like it going into overdrive.

Start a Cannabis Journal

Having a cannabis journal will allow you to monitor the effects different strains have on you. By noting how you feel after using a particular strain, and continuously adding to your journal, you will soon build up a complete database on the effects particular strains have on your well-being. Uppy is a fantastic cannabis journaling App that precisely records anything and everything to do with your medical cannabis intake.
